Why should kayaking be incorporated in school programmes?
KIWIS LOVE TO BE ON THE WATER! PADDLING IS A GREAT WAY TO MASTER SOMETHING THAT USES NOT ONLY STRENGTH BUT TECHNIQUE, WHILST ALSO DEVELOPING MORE TRANSFERABLE SKILLS SUCH AS NAVIGATION, HAZARD MANAGEMENT, WEATHER INTERPRETATION AND TEAMWORK.
GET NZQA ASSESSMENT STANDARDS
NZSKA can instruct and deliver the following Sea Kayaking Unit Standards:
LEVEL 2
- 489 “Demonstrate sea kayaking skills in sheltered or slow moving water” (3 credits)
- 20158 “Roll a sea kayak” (2 credits)
LEVEL 3
- 19428 “Prepare for sea kayaking and Demonstrate sea kayaking skills in sheltered waters” (10 credits)
- 19430 “Demonstrate knowledge of and maintain equipment used for sea kayaking” (2 credits)

What do we provide?
Experience and safety
NZSKA is audited annualy for its Safety Management System and is accredited by AdventureMark.
Our kayaking instructors are all qualified (NZOIA Sea Kayak 1 and BCU3) and are First Aid and CPR trained.
An extensive background in Outdoor education/tourism
Sea Kayaks and Kayaking Gear
Our fleet of sea kayaks are predominantly NZ made QKayaks (Skua, Penguin, Puffin & Tasman Express). We also have a number of double kayaks made by Paddling Perfection. We keep upgrading our fleet before the current ones wear out. We aim to have boats of a variety of sizes and types to suit all.
18 seats are available at one time.
We provide all of the kayaking equipment: PFD’s from XS to XL, spray decks, paddles, paddle jackets.

Although we are based in the Bay Of Islands we love nothing better than packing up the trailer and van to hit the road. We are happy to travel anywhere in the North Island, including Great Barrier Island and the Hauraki Gulf.
In our 30’s we have a tremendous amounts of energy to get the most from every day. Overgrown kids that we are, we love to have fun and build a trusting relationship with our students.
Our team has an extensive background in leading people in challenging conditions. Experience gained in some of the toughest environments in the world such as the Antarctic and the vast expanses of the worlds oceans helps us make sound decisions in regards to your groups safety. It also gives us the ability to tell some great stories.
